The Journey Continues

Art of Molecule (AoM) is the lasting legacy of more than a decade of interdisciplinary work within the Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research Molecular Systems Engineering (NCCR). Established as the NCCR’s platform for ethics, science communication, and societal dialogue, AoM created innovative spaces where researchers, artists, philosophers, policymakers, and the wider public could explore the opportunities, responsibilities, and human dimensions of engineering life.
Through international conferences, artistic collaborations, public dialogues, educational programmes, films, and exhibitions, AoM has demonstrated that scientific innovation reaches its greatest potential when it is accompanied by ethical reflection and meaningful public engagement.

“Unparalleled in ethics and communication efforts – no comparable centre has achieved this level of creativity and public engagement.”
— Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), International Review Panel —

Following the successful completion of the NCCR in 2026 after twelve years of research and interdisciplinary collaboration, Art of Molecule entered a new chapter. Building on its internationally recognised legacy, AoM was established as an independent Swiss non-profit association under Articles 60 et seq. of the Swiss Civil Code, ensuring the continuation and further development of its mission to foster dialogue between science, ethics, the arts, and society.

Rather than providing simple answers, AoM creates spaces for thoughtful questions. We bring together researchers, artists, philosophers, educators, policymakers, and citizens to explore how emerging life sciences can contribute to a future that is scientifically excellent, ethically responsible, and deeply human.
Science creates possibilities. Dialogue gives them meaning.
